coverTierney

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Academic Affairs: A Love Story” by William G. Tierney.

There’s much more than academics going on at Smithfield University in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing. The author, a university professor, creates a sexy, intriguing, and poignant campus world populated by passionate characters who make love, make mistakes and make millions.

For the bored professor with a roving eye, the striving student with a secret, the all-powerful president and the humble gardener, campus life is a daily drama full of twisted relationships, pleasure, passion and pain. And sometimes, lessons learned. Set at the fictional Smithfield University in California “Academic Affairs: A Love Story,”  weaves a narrative both tender and turbulent, examining all variations of relationships in this loosely bound academic family: sociology professor Bill Massy’s clandestine affair with the brilliant and powerful provost; President Roger Turner’s strange partnership with the eccentric mogul who donates $250 million; and graduate student Jim Hagedorn, who jeopardizes his love affair with Kevin for casual sexual encounters. As these too-human characters struggle to make sense of their lives and their work, some relationships end and new ones start, thanks to luck and the lure of love.

Student Shares His Insights on Biblical Revelations in New Book

coverIsola

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Greatest Revelation: Series One” by Abebola Isola.

A West African-born student offers his perspective on the Bible in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Reading the Bible is a personal experience for many people, and sometimes its messages don’t come across clearly. In his new book, author Abebola Isola, a university student, shares the insights he’s gleaned from his own reading of scripture, told in an easy, conversational style that’s easy to follow. He writes that he was inspired to write the book because he wanted to share God’s message with children, teenagers and adults who don’t understand it.

“The Greatest Revelation: Series One” focuses mainly on Bible passages from the Book of Matthew, with each verse followed by a short interpretation. For instance, Isola explores Matthew 4:13: “You are the salt of the earth.” His explanation is the earth needs us or it can’t function, so everyone has responsibilities to God. Regarding Matthew 15:8 — These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. – he explains that Christianity must come from the heart. Instead of talking about Christianity, people need to act and serve God from the bottom of their heart.

Isola humbly presents his interpretation of the Bible, poking fun at himself and some of his initial misconceptions about scripture. For instance, when he was a child, he thought the verses that talk about cutting off part of the body that cause people to sin was literally – that he should cut his body. He later realized, with God’s help, that the scripture referred to metaphorically shedding things that cause people to sin.

Author Abebola Isola, a student at the University of Minnesota, is majoring in economics. Isola was born in Lagos in Nigeria, Africa. His father, an engineer, lives in Nigeria, and his mother, a nurse, lives in America.

Student Works on His Monstrous Temper at School in New Children’s Book by Heather Arabadjis

coverArabadjis

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Monster Mas” by Heather Arabadjis.

A new student receives tips to keep his temper from boiling over at school in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Right from the beginning, Monster Mas suspects he’s not going to have a good day. First, his mother pushes him out the door mid-sentence, and when he arrives at his new school, two boys cut in front of him in line and laugh at him. Under trying circumstances, it can be hard to keep your cool, as this new children’s book shares, especially when you have a bad temper.

“Monster Mas” features a youngster with bug-infested hair who starts to steam and run around like a locomotive when he gets angry, roaring with frustration. In the classroom, he tries to impress a girl but gets his times tables mixed up, prompting a temper tantrum. A squeezy toy from his teacher helps calm him. His frustrations continue in the cafeteria, during music and back at his classroom. When his face starts turning rainbow colors, a kind classmate reminds him about what’s important. After running through all of his calming techniques, Monster Mas feels himself transformed – literally.

Heather Arabadjis offers a gentle lesson in coping and being kind in this charming story, and the cartoon illustrations by Pink Elephink bring the characters to life. The book provides adults and children with a way to discuss real-life situations while reading aloud together.

Author Heather Arabadjis has taught for the New York City Department of Education for 11 years. She now teaches children with physical or mental disabilities in their homes but has taught all grade levels, including spending eight years in a classroom in the South Bronx.

Luther Drakeford Relays How Low Noise Leads to High Marks in New Book

coverDrakeford

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Quiet Please” by Luther Drakeford.

The importance of schoolwork shines through this book release by Dog Ear Publishing that’s part memoir, part instruction guide.

Having a quiet place to study can make all the difference in a student’s grades. The author of this new book found out the hard way that sometimes leaving home is the only way to be a productive, effective student. Luther Drakeford did poorly in school while his twin brother did well. The difference was that his brother found quiet places to study, such as the library, and put cotton in his ears so he could sleep at night despite his parents’ loud arguing. Luther did neither of these things and suffered as a result.

“Quiet Please” tells the true story of Luther and his brother Arthur, represented by twins Joey and Johnny, in this book designed for adults and young people. Growing up in New York City with verbally abusive parents who drank was hard for Joey, who fell asleep in class and had poor study habits, barely passing his classes. Johnny, meanwhile, seemed to flourish because he was willing to stay away from HOME during homework time and do whatever it took to get enough sleep. A concerned teacher tried to help, and once Joey began to study at a friend’s quiet home, be did better in school.

In his book, Drakeford remembers certain teachers more than 60 years later and a friend who inspired him to read, starting with Outdoor Life magazines. He also cherishes a friend who lived in a quiet home with encouraging parents who welcomed him with open arms. Drakeford urges parents to provide a similar quiet atmosphere for studying, reminding them that a loud radio, television, or arguing and abusive parents or siblings can cause serious damage to study habits. Colorful illustrations by Alan Margolis punctuate Drakeford’s heartfelt message of encouragement to students to do their best.

Author Luther Drakeford, who grew up in the Bronx in New York City, has spent almost 30 years working around elementary children as a New York City School Fireman and School Engineer, and volunteering as a court-appointed advocate for a teenage boy. He was inspired to write the book as a resource for parents and students. He and his wife, Helen, have been married for 43 years and have four children and three grandchildren.

New French Verb Workbook by Daniel R.Weidman Boosts Language Learning

coverWeidmanII

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The French Verb Chart: Workbook II” by Daniel Weidman.

Students of French have a new tool at their disposal – a learning system that helps them master the complexities of verb conjugation. Dog Ear Publishing has released The French Verb Chart: Workbook II for intermediate to advanced students.

The next step in the The French Verb Chart series, Workbook II introduces and focuses on specific common irregular verbs encountered in intermediate to advanced studies.

In “The French Verb Chart: Workbook II,” author Daniel R.Weidman builds on the work he began with his first workbook offering a visual tool that shows students the big picture of conjugating French verbs – all 14 tenses plus the imperative with English equivalents, representative verbs fully conjugated and charts of 74 common irregular intermediate to advanced level verbs.  As designed by author Daniel R. Weidman and used in his classrooms over the decades, students use one French verb chart per verb (infinitive) and each contains a place to record the French infinitive with its English meaning, the conjugated verb forms for each personal pronoun, and the English meanings for that particular tense.  The logic of The French Verb Chart learning system is the unique up-down, top box-bottom box pairing methodology that helps students visualize and picture the conjugations thereby enabling students to commit to memory and to recall conjugations more quickly.

To master the art of conjugating French verbs without becoming overwhelmed, confused and discouraged, it is absolutely essential to have a system.  That system is The French Verb Chart!

This highly effective educational tool can be incorporated into an independent study program or blended with a teacher-led curriculum.  As a bonus feature, Workbook II also contains 25 blank verb charts that teachers and students can use for quizzes, tests, homework or general practice.Wo

Unlike all other French verb books on the market, The French Verb Chart learning system gives students “a sense of ownership and accomplishment!”
