Dog Ear Publishing releases “Felony on the Fairway” by John T. Yantis.

This new fiction release published by Dog Ear Publishing is a classic mystery story set in contemporary times with a modern woman chasing down the answers.  Gabby Evans is flabbergasted when she’s implicated in the murder of a loutish lawyer with a shady past.  As the police find more and more evidence against her, Gabby must prove her innocence and find the real culprit before it’s too late.

Gabby Evans, a young professional woman out for an early morning game of golf, is shocked when she and her friend stumble upon a dead body.  She’s even more shocked when the victim is revealed to be Gerald Clark, the boorish attorney who broke her sister’s heart years ago with his philandering and abusive behavior.  Soon, Gabby is visited by police officers who inform her that her golf club was the presumed murder weapon, and her footprints were found near the scene.  Gabby is one of the most prominent suspects in the rapidly unfolding case.  Horrified, Gabby enlists the help of her sister, Jennifer, an attorney at the firm to which the victim belonged, and Josh, the journalist who had joined Gabby for a round of golf on that fateful morning.

Together, the trio begins to delve into the seedy life of Gerald Clark, finding a number of people with sterling motives for murder. Clark had a string of women he’d humiliated or offended, and he had a major gambling habit as well.  His colleagues disliked him, and he’d cost the firm money when his chauvinistic behavior forced them to pay off a potential lawsuit. With all of these possibilities to explore, Gabby and her friends are running out of time.  Can they clear Gabby’s name before it’s too late?  Who killed Gerald Clark?

Felony on the Fairway  is a classic whodunit, with a sassy and capable  heroine in Gabby Evans.  The twists and turns the story takes will keep readers guessing until the thrilling conclusion.  Author John Yantis grew up in Kansas, where he served as a teacher, coach, and administrator before moving to Michigan, where he served as the dean at a university and a professor.  This is his third novel.

New Novel Features Young Love’s Courage in the Face of Bigotry; Book by John Yantis

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Once Remembered” by John Yantis.

A 50th class reunion leads a man to remember his life in the small town of Howard, Kansas – a time when he was falling in love with a new girl in town who stirs up bigotry simply for being different. This new novel released by Dog Ear Publishing gives readers a glimpse of high school, young love and small-town 1950s Kansas.

Living in a small town has its challenges, especially when love is in the air. When Tommy John Watson and Maria Gonzales fall in love in a small Kansas town in the 1950s, their ethnic differences cause obstacles for them and for others. Things get even more complicated when Orval, Tommy’s farming father becomes the sheriff.

Told in flashbacks, “Once Remembered” paints a picture of small-town America with its descriptions of everyday life on a farm, high school sports and small senior classes – including Maria, a beautiful girl who is new in town. Although many people are welcoming, some are anything but. A deliberately set fire destroys Maria’s family’s garage and car, and the community rallies to help them buy a new car. The fire, however, has devastating effects beyond a burnt vehicle and tragedy strikes a classmate.

The hatred and fear escalate when a small group of hoodlums from town joins with an out-of-state hate group determined to make its point. Orval has more than he bargained for when he agreed to step up to enforce the law and must find out who’s responsible for terrorizing the Gonzales family. Maria, meanwhile, acts compassionately even in the face of small-town bigotry and mistrust for someone who is different. Tommy John soon finds himself head over heels with the brunette beauty and her even more beautiful heart.

The book resonates with this fictional – but compellingly realistic — description of life in the 1950s. This is the second novel for author John Yantis, who grew up in Kansas and worked there as a teacher, coach and administrator. He wrote numerous articles for professional journals as a university professor and dean after moving to Michigan.
