Soldier Dog and Stray Form Unlikely Friendship; K.R. Feinstein Releases New Children’s Book

coverFeinstein

Dog Ear Publishing releases “the Adventures of Jethro & Fritz” by K.R. Feinstein

Two unforgettable canines share hardship and adventure in this new children’s book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

When stray dog Jethro sees an unfamiliar dog smelling of sadness at Glenwood Memorial Cemetery, little does he know his life is going to change – for the better. It seems Fritz, a German shepherd who also stars in this new children’s book, has an adventurous past, including doing a tour in Iraq as a soldier dog. The magic of friendship is apparent in this charming story.

Surviving a hurricane is just the first of the new adventures the two dogs share. “The Adventures of Jethro & Fritz” slowly reveals Fritz’s past, from his beginnings as the runt of the litter to Army training to the tragic consequences of war. Jethro, not a typically adventurous character, soon finds himself taking part in situations that he would never dare tackle alone, including a brush with animal control. By working together, Jethro and Fritz uncover dangerous dealings in town and learn that despite their different backgrounds, each has his own style of courage.

Pen and ink illustrations by S.E. Feinstein enhance the start of each chapter in this heartwarming book that introduces children to war, as well as courageous trainers and dogs who help keep troops safe.

Heavenly Messages Star in Calf’s Adventure; Betty Page and Phil Wallace Release New Children’s Book

coverWallage-Page

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Calf and the Stars” by Betty Page, illustrated by Phil Wallace.

A little calf finds some unexpected friends when he becomes trapped in a ravine in this new picture book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

It’s not easy being on your own, especially when you’re young. A little calf with a tendency to wander off gets more than he bargained for when a fast-moving storm leaves him trapped in a ravine all alone. As the story goes in this new children’s book, even the rancher can’t retrieve the scared calf because of the deep snow. Luckily, he’s got some friends in the sky who keep his hope alive.

“The Calf and the Stars” provides a beautiful lesson about the power of friendship, even when it’s between stars and a little calf. When he begins to cry, the stars spell out encouraging messages so the little calf knows he’s not alone. Told in simple rhymes designed for reading aloud, this delightful children’s book offers a heartwarming story that charms adults and children alike. The gentle watercolor illustrations pair beautifully with the story, offering a reminder that friendship can be found in unlikely places.

Author Betty Page and illustrator Phil Wallace recently teamed up for the children’s book “It’s Neat to Eat.” Page, a freelance writer who used the name Betty Russell, wrote human interest articles for the New York Times, Seventeen Magazine and local newspapers. Wallace, whose cartoons have appeared in trade magazines such as Advertising Age and Broadcast Magazine, also illustrated “Tiger Tales,” a book about the Flying Tigers in World War II.

Penny Davis shares Heartwarming Stories About Hospice Work in New Book

coverDavisP

Dog Ear Publishing releases “PJ’s, Pearls, and Fishing Poles: Life Lessons of Style and Substance” by Penny Davis.

A former Executive Director of a hospice organization shares stories from her decades-long career and interactions with families, hospice team members and patients in this new book about the importance of time & life lessons released by Dog Ear Publishing.

As a little girl, Penny Davis helped her grandmother care for an ailing neighbor during a hot summer – one of a network of neighborly volunteers who helped care for the gravely ill woman. Although that act took place long before hospice became recognized as a level of care, it inspired Davis, who spent 45 years in health care herself. Her new book explores the world of hospice care, sharing stories from hospice team members, patients and their families as examples of love, wisdom, humor, friendship, resilience, compassion and courage.

“PJ’s, Pearls, and Fishing Poles: Life Lessons of Style and Substance” provides insights into a hospice interdisciplinary team and how it works, meshing the talents of a medical director, nurses, home health aids, chaplain, social workers, bereavement coordinator, volunteer coordinator, volunteers, sales team and executive director. Hospice, which focuses on the patient, offers everything from pain management to emotional support as families navigate quality end-of-life care. The hospice team hears it all, from anxious people who don’t know how to talk to their friends in hospice to requests for egg salad recipes at 3 am and helping patients create gifts for loved ones as a legacy. This heart-warming book celebrates both patients and the special team. It focuses not on death or dying but the heart and soul of living.

Author Penny Davis serves as a board member for the Indiana Hospice Palliative Care Organization and volunteers with a local hospice after retiring as executive director. A portion of proceeds from “PJ’s, Pearls, and Fishing Poles” will be donated to hospice.
