Dog Ear Publishing releases “Beyond Everyday Eating: A Nutrition Guide to the Ghanaian Diet” by Dora Asare-Morrison.

Readers learn how to incorporate foods from across Ghana while staying healthy in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

You are what you eat. That’s a sentence that appears to have become ever more important as scientists explore the link between nutrition and good health. This new book details good eating habits and the crops found across Ghana and beyond, as well as featuring the nutritional content of foods and how to plan affordable meals that taste good and maintain health.

“Beyond Everyday Eating: A Nutrition Guide to the Ghanaian Diet” is written for Ghanaian residents, community leaders and healthcare professionals, aimed at satisfying a hunger for information about proper nutrition to stay healthy. The author writes that in Ghana, few people can have three healthy meals a day. Instead, most struggle to create one decent meal, a light breakfast and snack. Climate change affecting crop production and the expansion of urban sprawl into former farmland has reduced the amount of food produced and driven up prices. Creating healthy meals on a low budget becomes a matter of survival.

Author Dora Asare-Morrison, an experienced dietitian, gives a brief lesson on nutrition, followed by sections on food groups such as dairy, legumes, fruits, meats, vegetables and grains, as well as planning meals for specific times of day, snacks and healthy drinks. A glossary, easy-to-understand charts and reference list offer further resources for those who want to delve more deeply into this important topic.

Dora Asare-Morrison was raised in Ghana and has experience with cuisine from Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the United States. She earned a bachelor’s degree in clinical dietetics and nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh. Asare-Morrison has more than 20 years of clinical experience in acute care, sub-acute care and rehabilitation hospitals. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist, licenses dietitian in Texas, certified nutrition support dietitian and certified nutrition support clinician. She also has experience in intensive care, medical/surgical units, neurology intensive care and outpatient dialysis centers across the United States. Asare-Morrison serves as a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, affiliated with the Hunger and Environmental Nutrition Practice Group.

Mrs. D. Releases First Book in Series Starring Mouse with Taste for Adventure

coverMrsD_Carlo

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Carlo the Mouse Book 1: Too Many Rules for One Little Mouse” by author.

A children’s book author pens her latest book featuring a young mouse who doesn’t like to follow the rules in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Carlo the Mouse, who was born inside a Florida hospital and lives within its walls, longs to see the outside world. This charming new children’s book, the first in a series starring the rascally little fellow, features his first adventure. Although his parents do their best to teach him how to follow the rules, his desire to explore leads to nothing but trouble.

In “Carlo the Mouse, Book 1: Too Many Rules for One Little Mouse,” the young mouse’s parents are running themselves ragged to feed their hungry child, evading mousetraps and tricking the staff in the kitchen. Carlo imagines that the kitchen – which smells delicious – is a fun place to hang out, not realizing the danger it holds. His favorite food is Italian, and he wants to visit Italy – just for the food. His parents try telling him the rules for living in a hospital, but Carlo wonders if he really has to follow them. Their only hope is that their son can use his wits and can remember to follow the rules if he wants to explore. Younger children can follow along with colorful cartoon images by Chanoa, a talented freelance illustrator who works on children’s books and anime.

This is the fifth book for author Olga D’Agostino, also known as Mrs. D. She has a business school degree and immigrated to the United States from western Ukraine in 1992. Her other illustrated books include “Carlo the Mouse on Vacation,” “The Trees Have Hearts” “Good Morning, World!” and “The City Kittens and the Old House Cat.” “The Trees Have Hearts” was awarded a 2013 Mom’s Choice Award. She is already working on several other books for children, including more adventures starring Carlo the Mouse, and “Runaway Clothes,” “The Mysterious Life Inside a Closet,” “Everyone Needs Someone: The Royal Palm,” “Who Is Most Important in the Fridge” and “That Is How Things Are.”

Experience Delightful Day at the Beach in New Children’s Book Released by ZD Gallup

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Nap Time at the Beach” by ZD Gallup.

A child enjoys the simple pleasures of the beach in this new illustrated book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Beaches are wonderful places to explore and provide endless hours of entertainment – and a special place to take a nap. In this charming new children’s book, author ZD Gallup uses pen and ink to describe the magical world of sand and surf. With nothing more than a pail, shovel and dump truck, a small child and their caregiver explore the beach.

“Nap Time at the Beach” offers an up-close and personal look at the beach, where children can dig and cover up with cool moist sand as the waves say, woosh, wamp, woosh. Wading, climbing up sand dunes and watching birds scamper up and down the beach makes kids sleepy, and a beach tent provides an inviting sanctuary for a nap. Evoking a simpler time, Gallup’s gentle prose and striking illustrations add up to a beautifully told tale of a day at the beach.

Author and illustrator ZD Gallup has a bachelor’s degree in drawing and printmaking and works in mixed media and fiber in her design studio. Gallup, who is a grandmother, has spent lots of time on beaches, in spite of living in Girdwood, Alaska.
