Dog Ear Publishing releases “the Adventures of Jethro & Fritz” by K.R. Feinstein

Two unforgettable canines share hardship and adventure in this new children’s book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

When stray dog Jethro sees an unfamiliar dog smelling of sadness at Glenwood Memorial Cemetery, little does he know his life is going to change – for the better. It seems Fritz, a German shepherd who also stars in this new children’s book, has an adventurous past, including doing a tour in Iraq as a soldier dog. The magic of friendship is apparent in this charming story.

Surviving a hurricane is just the first of the new adventures the two dogs share. “The Adventures of Jethro & Fritz” slowly reveals Fritz’s past, from his beginnings as the runt of the litter to Army training to the tragic consequences of war. Jethro, not a typically adventurous character, soon finds himself taking part in situations that he would never dare tackle alone, including a brush with animal control. By working together, Jethro and Fritz uncover dangerous dealings in town and learn that despite their different backgrounds, each has his own style of courage.

Pen and ink illustrations by S.E. Feinstein enhance the start of each chapter in this heartwarming book that introduces children to war, as well as courageous trainers and dogs who help keep troops safe.

Follow Adventures of a Former Foreign Service Officer in Frederic Mabbatt’s New Book

coverMabbatt

Dog Ear Publishing releases “On the Front Lines of the Cold War: The Adventures of an American Foreign Service Family” by Frederic Mabbatt.

A retired senior Foreign Service officer shares stories of his adventures during the Cold War – sometimes funny, sometimes dangerous – in the service of his country in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

After spending more than 20 years as a Foreign Service officer, Frederic Mabbatt has seen it all. In this new book, “Tony,” as he’s known to his family and friends, relays some of the experiences he and his young family had during their time abroad. From escaping an enraged mob during riots in the Sudan to enjoying the samba in Rio and visiting the lush gardens of Bali, Mabbatt experienced joy, fear and satisfaction in his career during the era of Cold War tensions with the Soviet Union.

“On the Front Lines of the Cold War: The Adventures of an American Foreign Service Family” tells of Mabbatt’s work with public affairs programs designed to promote democracy and a free market economy as positive alternatives to Communism. He and his wife, Jean, were married and got on the road right away so Tony could be sworn in as a Foreign Service information officer in Washington, D.C. While waiting for his first posting, he and the staff rally in the wake of President Kennedy’s assassination, reinforcing his enthusiasm for the job. His family is with him from the start, as Jean and 5-week-old Patricia accompany him to Khartoum in the Sudan.

This engrossing look at Foreign Service protocol and the unforgettable events that took place during Mabbatt’s service includes tips for visiting Muslim countries and descriptions of building goodwill to the United States in countries that viewed Americans in a favorable light. This insider’s look at the Foreign Service and postings around the world paints a clear picture of the importance of representing democracy at its best. A special supplement provides Mabbatt’s opinions on contemporary foreign policies.

Author Frederic Mabbatt, who once served in Jordan, the Sudan, Brazil, Tanzania, Indonesia and the Netherlands, now lives with his wife, Jean, in Sun Valley, where he lectures and writes about foreign policy issues. Mabbatt served in the Marine Corps and worked for the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and the San Diego Zoo before joining the Foreign Service in 1963. He studied at the University of Alaska and is a graduate of the University of San Diego and studied international relations at San Diego State University.
