Dog Ear Publishing releases “America Not That Beautiful” by Jadwiga Radon

A diabetic shares tips and tricks for dealing with diabetes in this new self-help book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Although freedom and resources enhance the U.S.’s image as a land of plenty, that reputation has a dark side: obesity. In her new book, an author and diabetic challenges Americans to change their lifestyle while they still can. As she points out, diabetics struggle with their condition, but hard work and dedication – including eating correctly and exercising – can help them beat the disease.

“America not that Beautiful” describes basic human behavior, noting that sometimes eating – a necessary fact of life – can become an addiction, especially the high-calorie types readily available in the United States at corner stores, gas stations and grocery stores. That addiction, when accompanied by a sedentary lifestyle and other risk factors, can lead to diabetes. Radon writes about her diagnosis with Type II diabetes and how she worked to fight the disease through modifying her diet and increasing her exercising. Her efforts paid off: Today she is 25 pounds lighter, her cholesterol is within normal limits and she is prediabetic rather than a diabetic.

Radon aims to provide inspiration and practical tips to fighting diabetes, sharing suggestions for daily activities and good habits, information on counting carbohydrates and tips for shopping for food. Diabetic-friendly recipes such as lima beans with sausage and deviled eggs made with avocado incorporate easy-to-find ingredients and good nutrition. The book closes with a chapter devoted to inspirational quotes from historic figures and some inspirational thoughts from the author.

Author Jadwiga Radon. who has diagnosed with diabetes in 2009, taught for 32 years before moving to the United States from Poland to be closer to her only child, a daughter. She is a retired teacher interested in psychology, history and politics. Radon, who moved to the United States in 2001 from Poland, enjoys the mountainous area of Idaho, where she lives. She is in her sixties and walks and hikes to stay healthy.

Poems Provide Release for Bi-Polar Author Tom Sebell

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Bi-Polar Poems” by Tom Sebell.

A bi-polar poet shares his thoughts on the world and his life in this new poetry collection released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Writing allows people to express themselves, and people with a lot on their mind are no exception. The author of this new book of poetry, who is bi-polar, writes poems as a way to relax and let out some of the dark thoughts he has in the world, which he sees in stark black and white – not shades of gray. Although he could sink to the depths of despair, given his choice to laugh or cry, he chooses to laugh and provide insight into a world of his making.

“Bi-Polar Poems” shows other sufferers of this condition that they are not alone. Author Tom Sebell lets his sense of humor shine like a beacon of light in the darkness. As he writes in one short selection, “If I took an IQ test, the results would say buy him a helmet.” Another poem pokes fun of the long-standing nature of his illness: “When I was little I was so screwed up even the little bus rode by me and waved.” But Sebell can be serious as well, such as a poem in which he describes the isolation he sometimes feels: “Most people could not handle our bi-polar mind, none the less deal with our bi-polar world.”

Author Tom Sebell, who has been diagnosed as bi-polar, is married and has a son. He lives in Pennsville, N.J. Sebell credits his family and friends for helping him make it through life.
