Daddy, Daughter Star in New Picture Book for Children by Cheryl Kula

coverKula

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Play Day with Daddy” by Cheryl Kula.

A young girl and her father enjoy spending time together when her mother goes to work in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

When a young girl’s mother leaves for work Friday, it’s not cause for sadness because that’s the day the girl and her dad get to spend together. This new children’s book tells what happens during their day, from start to finish. The story ends at the best part of the day – when Mommy comes home and all three sit down at the dinner table to talk about what happened while they were apart.

“Play Day with Daddy” features typical activities for families: a pancake breakfast, foraging in the garden for fruits and vegetables, having a picnic lunch and reading stories about dragons and knights. It’s a fun way for the girl and her father to spend the day, as well as their cat, who insists on tagging along. Colorful cartoon illustrations by Karl Trolenberg fit perfectly with Cheryl Kula’s gentle rhyming story. The book’s easy prose works equally well as a read-aloud story or one children can tackle themselves.

This is the first children’s book for author Cheryl Kula, who has two daughters with her husband, Ted. They live in a mountainous area of West Virginia. Illustrator Karl Trolenberg, a graduate of the East Carolina School of Art, has worked in the arts for 17 years. He and his wife, Kathryn, have two sons. They live in Virginia.

Calico Cat Has Life-Changing Magical Adventure in New Children’s Book by Chrysie Shaw

coverShaw

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Cat and the Goldfish” by Chrysie Shaw.

A dip in a fish pond leads to a surprising encounter in this new children’s book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

When a pretty little calico cat with a funny-sounding voice takes part in a magical adventure, anything can happen. Sasquatch, who stars in this new illustrated children’s book, loves to sit by the fish pond and look at the fish swimming below the pink water lilies. When she gets too close to the edge one day and falls in, she has the surprise of her life when she turns into a mercat and encounters a talking goldfish. What happens next will change her life.

“The Cat and the Goldfish” features a whimsical, magical tale about Sasquatch, a real-life cat who arrived at the author’s home as a tiny kitten. Sasquatch, who has a gray coat with patches of tan and white on her face, paws and tummy, is just as much a character and happy cat as the fictional cat who frolics in the pond. Colorful cartoon illustrations by Kezzia Crossley add to the appeal of the book. It’s geared toward 5- to 8-year-olds but also works well as a read-aloud story for adults to share with children.

Author Chrysie Shaw is a longtime animal lover, having grown up in southeastern Montana surrounded by animals. She worked for almost 30 years as a registered nurse before retiring. Shaw now lives near the Rocky Mountains in southern Colorado, once again surrounded by animals. Kezzia Crossley, a freelance illustrator, lives in British Columbia, Canada.

Student Works on His Monstrous Temper at School in New Children’s Book by Heather Arabadjis

coverArabadjis

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Monster Mas” by Heather Arabadjis.

A new student receives tips to keep his temper from boiling over at school in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Right from the beginning, Monster Mas suspects he’s not going to have a good day. First, his mother pushes him out the door mid-sentence, and when he arrives at his new school, two boys cut in front of him in line and laugh at him. Under trying circumstances, it can be hard to keep your cool, as this new children’s book shares, especially when you have a bad temper.

“Monster Mas” features a youngster with bug-infested hair who starts to steam and run around like a locomotive when he gets angry, roaring with frustration. In the classroom, he tries to impress a girl but gets his times tables mixed up, prompting a temper tantrum. A squeezy toy from his teacher helps calm him. His frustrations continue in the cafeteria, during music and back at his classroom. When his face starts turning rainbow colors, a kind classmate reminds him about what’s important. After running through all of his calming techniques, Monster Mas feels himself transformed – literally.

Heather Arabadjis offers a gentle lesson in coping and being kind in this charming story, and the cartoon illustrations by Pink Elephink bring the characters to life. The book provides adults and children with a way to discuss real-life situations while reading aloud together.

Author Heather Arabadjis has taught for the New York City Department of Education for 11 years. She now teaches children with physical or mental disabilities in their homes but has taught all grade levels, including spending eight years in a classroom in the South Bronx.

Mrs. D. Releases First Book in Series Starring Mouse with Taste for Adventure

coverMrsD_Carlo

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Carlo the Mouse Book 1: Too Many Rules for One Little Mouse” by author.

A children’s book author pens her latest book featuring a young mouse who doesn’t like to follow the rules in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Carlo the Mouse, who was born inside a Florida hospital and lives within its walls, longs to see the outside world. This charming new children’s book, the first in a series starring the rascally little fellow, features his first adventure. Although his parents do their best to teach him how to follow the rules, his desire to explore leads to nothing but trouble.

In “Carlo the Mouse, Book 1: Too Many Rules for One Little Mouse,” the young mouse’s parents are running themselves ragged to feed their hungry child, evading mousetraps and tricking the staff in the kitchen. Carlo imagines that the kitchen – which smells delicious – is a fun place to hang out, not realizing the danger it holds. His favorite food is Italian, and he wants to visit Italy – just for the food. His parents try telling him the rules for living in a hospital, but Carlo wonders if he really has to follow them. Their only hope is that their son can use his wits and can remember to follow the rules if he wants to explore. Younger children can follow along with colorful cartoon images by Chanoa, a talented freelance illustrator who works on children’s books and anime.

This is the fifth book for author Olga D’Agostino, also known as Mrs. D. She has a business school degree and immigrated to the United States from western Ukraine in 1992. Her other illustrated books include “Carlo the Mouse on Vacation,” “The Trees Have Hearts” “Good Morning, World!” and “The City Kittens and the Old House Cat.” “The Trees Have Hearts” was awarded a 2013 Mom’s Choice Award. She is already working on several other books for children, including more adventures starring Carlo the Mouse, and “Runaway Clothes,” “The Mysterious Life Inside a Closet,” “Everyone Needs Someone: The Royal Palm,” “Who Is Most Important in the Fridge” and “That Is How Things Are.”
