Youngsters Hit the Road with Loved Ones in Cartoonist’s New Book on Critters Riding Motorcycles

coverJamiol

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Bikers Are Animals 4: Working and Riding” by Paul Jamiol.

A cartoonist reveals the latest installment of his series on cool animals who happen to ride motorcycles, with this new illustrated book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Seeing the world from the back of a motorcycle is a fun way for a youngster to relax and connect with an adult. That’s the message in this new book on animals riding motorcycles, the fourth in a series by cartoonist Paul Jamiol. The stars of this book are the young animals, who are related to the adult characters featured in Jamiol’s first two books. The youngsters introduce the adults and their jobs, clearly showing the pride they have in what their adults do for a living.

“Bikers Are Animals 4:  Working and Riding” includes such characters as Ela and her mom Sa-Rah (a hawk) who owns a bakery; they check out the scenery on their ride home. Little T’s dad Trash works at a rehab center; these two cool bears love their Sunday rides. Musician Prowla the puma has her own rock band, and picks up her daughter Prowlinda after school on her bike. Tac the young lion and his big brother Tourk (who creates videogames) love to ride together.  Doing things together is the message that resonates throughout this book.

The colorful cartoon illustrations give children subtle safety lessons, as all the young critters wear helmets and proper clothing. Gar and his dad, Anvil, check out their bike to make sure it’s safe before they start riding. At the end of the book, a list of safety tips reinforces the importance of motorcycle safety in a not-so-subtle way, describing how to make every ride both fun and safe.

Author and illustrator Paul Jamiol is an avid motorcyclist who has been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for his artwork. The cartoonist’s work has appeared in magazines, online and in newspapers. This is the fourth book in his “Bikers Are Animals” series for children. Jamiol, who lives in Massachusetts, also published “Jamiol’s World,” a collection of more than 150 of his political cartoons.

Bedtime Story Stars Violin-Playing Cat Who Travels the World on Moonbeams; Anne E. Moses Releases New Children’s Book

coverMosesBennett

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Gatos Musikos – A Secret Told by the Moon” by Anne E. Moses.

Author and illustrator Anne E. Moses presents the remarkable tale about a wondrous cat who plays for sleeping creatures the world over in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

The Moon has a secret: His best friend is a magical cat who plays the violin and dances for all sleeping creatures, traveling on moonbeams around the world. This charming new children’s book shares all the places Gatos Musikos visits and the wonders he sees. No creatures are too big or too small, too urban or too remote for Gatos to play his little violin and dance his twirling dance for them as they dream.

“Gatos Musikos – A Secret Told by the Moon” weaves a wonderful tale that showcases animals and cultures from around the world. When the Moon is young and dinosaurs still refuse to go sleep despite all his efforts to soothe them, a very tired baby brontosaurus finally drifts off. The Moon watches in amazement as a marvelous cat appears and begins playing his little violin and dancing a twirling dance, easing the baby dinosaur into his dreams. The Moon is so delighted he offers his moonbeams to the cat so he can play and dance for all of Earth’s sleeping creatures. Now Gatos entertains animals from a tiny spider in its web to great Indian elephants and everything in between. He even performs a Scottish sword dance on the banks of Loch Ness as a sleeping Nessie drifts nearby.

After a busy night of traveling on moonbeams, and as dawn breaks softly over the world, Gatos has one last song to play before placing his little violin back into its magical case – this one for his very best friend, the Moon. Children everywhere are invited to believe in moonbeams, secure in the knowledge that they will never be forgotten by this remarkable cat, for Gatos Musikos will play his music and dance his twirling dance for them in their dreams. Enchanting illustrations by the author bring this imaginative bedtime story to life.

Author Anne E. Moses, born in Rochester, N.Y., has lived for many years in Boston, Mass., the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy. She and her husband now live in Greece. Moses is a painter, designer and screenwriter, as well as a passionate renovator of old houses. She has also completed six volumes in The Gracie Guides, a series of travel and how-to books “paw-written” by their very clever English Cocker Spaniel, Gracie.

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Bobo and the Pooch” by Regina Allen-Wilson.

Two young animals – very different from each other – learn the valuable lesson of friendship in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

An unexpected encounter has lasting effects on a bear cub and a puppy in this new children’s book that shows how two unique individuals can become best friends. Bobo, a lonely bear cub, explores a new side of the woods where he lives and sees a strange animal named Pooch. He is afraid to get close to the friendly puppy because they seem so different, but once Bobo overcomes his fears, something unexpected happens.

“Bobo and the Pooch” tells the story of these two unlikely friends, who begin to play, chasing each other and exploring the woods where Bobo lives. Despite their different lives, such as Bobo having to help hunt for his food while Pooch does not, they soon learn they share many things and become best friends. Simple, child-friendly illustrations by Abdul M-Shakoor add to the charm of this picture book that offers a gentle lesson in the importance of friendship and learning about someone who is different. Discussion questions on the last page allow parents to reinforce what children learn while reading the book together.

Award-winning author Regina Allen-Wilson has loved writing since she was a child. Recent books share her concerns for today’s youth, covering such topics as self-esteem and embracing our unique differences. The book’s main character was inspired by the author’s mother’s teddy bear named Bobo.

Sea-Cat Brothers Discover What’s Really Important in New Children’s Book by Shanthi Thiruppathi

coverThiruppathiBrother sea-cats each have a role when they drift apart after a disagreement. This new book released by Dog Ear Publishing features colorful illustrations and a lesson in getting along.

Tiggy and Tobias, brother sea-cats who live in a lighthouse on a beach, don’t seem to have much in common. In this new illustrated children’s book, sibling rivalry takes its toll, must as it does in human families. Rough-and-tumble Tiggy tells sea-glass-collector Tobias that he doesn’t act like a real cat. Tobias, whose feelings are hurt, begins to hang out with a pelican who shares his interest in art. But when Tiggy gets in real trouble, it’s Tobias who must come to his rescue.

“The Tales of Tiggy & Tobias: Brotherly Love” shares the story of the growing friendship between Tobias and Pilot, the friendly pelican. Soon, Tobias is finding fish on his doorstep – fish that he doesn’t need to share with the scary seagulls he and his brother typically confront. One day the fish don’t show up and neither does his brother. Tobias finds the courage to search for Tiggy with help from Pilot, and the two brothers discover that what’s important about being a sea-cat isn’t fierce fighting and hunting skills but having the courage to be true and loving to others.

Richly vivid illustrations by the author bring the coastline to life and play a starring role in this story featuring a gentle lesson about brotherly love and affection. The charming story works equally well for young readers or those who prefer to sit in a lap.

Author and illustrator Shanthi Thiruppathi was inspired by the rugged beauty of the North Carolina coast and her two real-life cats to create this children’s book. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and is pursuing an art career through her business, Into the Blue. Thiruppathi’s painting “Salty Curl” was displayed as part of the State of the Art/Art of the State exhibit from June to October 2011 at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, N.C. This book is the first in a planned series of stories featuring the cats.
