Author says Everything is Harder than You Think; Brett Hirsch Releases New Book

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Everything is Harder than You Think” by Brett Hirsch.

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Everything is Harder than You Think” by Brett Hirsch.

This new book released by Dog Ear Publishing provides a humorous look at the difficulties that occur in every aspect of life.

Sometimes a task that should be easy turns out to be incredibly difficult. This phenomenon, what the author of this new book calls “everything is harder than you think,” happens to everyone. Although it’s not a disease, Brett Hirsch writes in the introduction that he suspects it is contagious and may be inherited. As evidence, he points out that his mother says she inherited the condition from her children. “I will take her word for it,” he writes, “as I am sure that I was harder to raise than she thought I would be.”

“Everything Is Harder Than You Think” offers a tongue-in-cheek view of life’s complexities and notes that when things are going well, it’s only because “life is preparing to punch you in the ribs to keep you from getting a swelled head.” People achieve a sense of accomplishment from overcoming difficulties, and Hirsch colorfully relates his humorous experiences with such things as plumbing, electrical work, travel, cars, marriage, getting older, and losing weight.

The author’s misadventures include transporting a cat to the vet in a pillowcase, an ant-infested new car, cutting his finger on a bin at the airport, and trying to outwit old fixtures that require replacements. In the end, the book provides a gentle lesson about the pitfalls of thinking things are easy and the importance of perseverance.

Author Brett Hirsch spent more than 35 years building products, delivering projects and managing teams for major corporations. Hirsch, an experienced speaker and presenter, is known for his wit and humor.

Three best friends share their family stories and work together to launch a new venture in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

When three female friends join forces, the divorced women find that they are stronger together than they were apart. This new debut novel stars Chandler, who works in a marketing firm but dreams of using her cooking degree to become a distinguished chef; accounting whiz Lorelei, who wants to find herself; and Stevie Michelle, a beauty whose powers of persuasion run more than skin deep. Their combined talents provide a recipe for success for all three in the pursuit of their dream.

“Maroon & Company” shares the story of how the three women met, their failed marriages and their hopes for the future. Chandler learns she must take a risk if she is to succeed in creating Maroon, the restaurant she’s dreamed about for years. Stevie Michelle must prove she can help Chandler achieve her dream. Lorelei confronts trauma from her past when she returns home to South Carolina, but it’s her newfound independence that allows Lorelei to return north to help her dearest friend.

Celebrating the holidays together and splurging on a vacation to the Bahamas allows the women to bond even more as they begin making plans for the restaurant. Once the restaurant is up and running, the three partners find they’ve got new – and old – men in their lives, one woman receives a visitor from her past, and another woman has a health scare. As they share old hurts and fears, Chandler, Lorelei and Stevie Michelle realize their friendship gives them the confidence to face adversity head-on and the humility to appreciate the triumphs.

This is the first novel for author Vetella Camper, whose short stories have earned recognition. She is a graduate from Cleveland State University.

Questions and Answers Inspire Reflection; New Release by Lonnie Garner

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Knowledge Thoughts and Philosophies of Lonnie G.: My Search for Wisdom” by Lonnie Garner.

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Knowledge Thoughts and Philosophies of Lonnie G.: My Search for Wisdom” by Lonnie Garner.

A businessman who grew up working hard asks and then answers questions ranging from religion to relationships in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Advancing knowledge and understanding of the human condition is a worthy pursuit, notes the author of this intriguing new book. “There is no question that should not be asked,” Lonnie Garner writes in the first chapter. “If you don’t like the answer, oh well.” As people talk, they think and learn, perhaps posing new questions but always moving forward, Garner writes, adding that he’s willing to ask and answer questions people have trouble talking about.

In “The Knowledge Thoughts and Philosophies of Lonnie G.: My Search for Wisdom,” Garner tackles subjects that range from those dealing with the world at large — communication, environmental concerns, aging and religion – to those that are more light-hearted – haunted houses, women’s clothing, piercings and the sense of taste. From Garner’s logical perspective, people need to look at issues in multiple ways to fully explore them and reveal the truth; each time the angle changes, something new will be discovered. Even as he urges frank discussion and introspection on issues, the author also cautions against crusading. “Don’t expect other people to think like you do,” he writes. “Don’t try pushing your ways on them.”

Author Lonnie Garner, a world-class authority on freshwater shells and freshwater pearls, developed a washing process for caviar while running a freshwater fish company that was the largest supplier of caviar in the United States. Operating businesses like this allowed him to travel around the world, studying different cultures. Garner, a great-grandfather, grew up in rural Alabama in the 1950s in a family used to hard work.

New Fiction Release Shares an Immigrant Girl’s Harrowing Journey and The Life That Follows; Book by Terry Suchanek

coverSuchanek

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Berta DeLuca” by Terry Suchanek.

This new fiction release published by Dog Ear provides eager readers a look into the life of an immigrant girl in the early part of the 20th century. Gaston DeLuca has been working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania for nearly two years and has finally saved up enough money to send for his wife, Rosa and their six year old daughter, Berta. When Rosa and Berta arrive at Ellis Island from their small village in Italy they are informed that Gaston has been killed in a mining accident.

Speaking no English and with very little money, Rosa and Berta set out on a poignant journey of survival in New York City, a cruel yet wondrous place. World War I, the influenza epidemic, prohibition and the culture of the roaring twenties impact their lives in ways that will have reader turning pages well into the night.

This beautifully written coming-of-age story spans the course of a decade, from 1917 to 1927. Rosa DeLuca is forced to leave her daughter, Berta in an orphanage as she struggles to survive in the slums of Five Points until she meets the charismatic Vinny Capozza. A whirlwind romance leads to marriage but things aren’t as they seem. Vinny is a man with weak morals and dark secrets. Berta witnesses her mother’s seemingly inexplicable decent into madness and copes with her step-father’s indifference and sporadic assaults. She, however, with the love and support of friends emerges triumphant with a future full of hope and possibilities before her.

Berta DeLuca, inspired by a true story, is fast-paced historical fiction at its finest with characters you’ll remember long after you turn the last page.

Covert Drug Investigation Takes Personal Turn; Tim Ramsey Releases Latest Book in Tom Curran Series

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Deadly Tropic Snow” by Tim Ramsey.

Dog Ear Publishing releases “The Deadly Tropic Snow” by Tim Ramsey.

An undercover team investigates mysterious drug-poisoning deaths occurring all over the nation in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

CIA special operations team leader Tom Curran runs his life on instinct, intuition and lately, he’s been influenced by someone beyond the grave. In this new novel, someone has poisoned the illegal drug supply, causing deaths across the country. Tom, who’s cool as a cucumber, and his team work to solve the mystery – even if his own team is involved. The investigation takes them from the swamps of Florida to the jungles of South America, Belize, Mexico, Miami, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

In “The Deadly Tropic Snow,” victims overdosing on cocaine first show up in Miami, Tampa, Houston, El Paso and Tucson, with the tainted drug spreading north and west. Government on all levels spends billions of dollars fighting the war on drugs. What would happen if those resources could be diverted to something more productive? This novel explores the public’s reaction to poisoned drugs, including the possibility that the deaths might – in the long run – lead to a decline in drug use, drug crime and violence. In effect, the deaths of a few drug users might benefit many more lives.

On assignment with an agent who isn’t who he claims to be, the team leaves the country to investigate the poisoned drugs. Tom finally identifies a mysterious man who’s been following him, only to have him disappear after an intense conversation. A fateful encounter in a cemetery in the middle of a chase brings Tom needed emotional release, bolstering his resolve to see the mission through to its end as it becomes intertwined with his longing for his own past. The body count rises in this non-stop adventure, and then becomes personal as the team must become relentless to uncover the truth.

Author Tim Ramsey’s 27 years in the military and his passion for fishing and surfing has led him around the world. When not working, he visits the Jersey Shore, mangrove islands of southwest Florida and Las Cumbres, Panama.  He grew up in Landisville and Sea Isle City, N.J., and graduated from Eckerd College in St. Pete, Florida. Ramsey also wrote “Unnecessary Evils,” the first novel in the Tom Curran series.

Author Answers God’s Call to Inspire Others; New Release by Norman Reuter

coverReuter

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Messages from the Father” by Norman Reuter.

The author of this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing shares a series of messages designed to inspire faith and deeper communication with God.

Ever since a spiritual workshop opened his heart, author Norman Reuter has felt compelled to share his faith in God. Those who have tried moving from one church to another, joining Bible study, yoga, meditation or reading religious books might need to take a new approach to living faithfully. In this new book, Reuter offers spiritual messages aimed at giving readers direction in their lives. As Reuter points out, just as each person is unique, so is each person’s relationship with God and how they communicate with him.

“Messages from the Father” contains spiritual writings Reuter says he received from God. Imagine his surprise several years ago when he heard these words in his head: “Hi. I’m your Father. I haven’t heard from you too much lately, so I thought I’d drop you a note.” Reuter never knows if the next message will come when he’s working at home or even driving his car. He notes that prayer is one form of communication but urges the faithful to listen to God’s messages; communication is not a one-way street.

Each selection includes a preface providing context or an anecdote related to the message, as well as advice on interpreting it. A message on loving people in spite of themselves includes this plea: “Your time is short – make the most of it by loving one another as I have loved you.” Messages include the importance of daily communication with God, making the most of God-given talent, being thankful for blessings, and sharing love with the world. A message to inspire those with low self-worth contains this inspiring thought: “The good Lord has created us and each one of us is a part of His puzzle. If we were not there, the puzzle would be incomplete.” This collection of messages, designed to be shared, will inspire those with a strong faith as well as those still seeking spiritual guidance.

A three-day spiritual retreat known as a Catholic Cursillo weekend led to amazing things for author Norman Reuter, who lives in a northwest suburb of Chicago. Reuter, who is semi-retired, has five children and five grandchildren. He is involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry, which serves those who are incarcerated as well as prison staff.
