New Release Guides Entrepreneurs through Emotions of Owning a Business; Book by Matthew McManus

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Business Between the Lines: The Side of Owning a Business You Won’t Find in a Textbook” by Matthew McManus.

A young entrepreneur provides advice on the highs and lows of owning a business in this down-to-earth new release from Dog Ear Publishing.

Owning a business can be rewarding, profitable and thrilling, but it also can be lonely, uncertain and difficult. In this new book, a young entrepreneur shares information about owning a business that can’t be found in a textbook or classroom, elaborating on the emotional side to being one’s own boss. Using a touch of humor, Matthew McManus offers realistic advice on how to keep from being overwhelmed by the emotional rollercoaster of business ownership.

“Business Between the Lines” features concise chapters with lessons that apply to the real world, not just theories. Topics include being careful, preparing for sacrifice, spending money to make money, finding talent, capitalizing on change anticipating obstacles, the important of listening and keeping it simple. McManus, who started a successful T-shirt business while still in high school, shares what he’s learned during growing pains of his business and college courses. This engaging resource tells of his anxiety in the early days and the importance of preparation and determination.

McManus gives examples of simple things that can make a difference, such as including a small pin or sticker with orders of T-shirts that boosted customer appreciation for his products or treating a supplier with kindness. He also cautions business owners to listen to their gut – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The easy-to-follow suggestions and acknowledgement of all the feelings involved in running a business provide a guide for anyone interested in starting a business.

Author Matthew McManus is pursuing a double major in marketing and management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also owns Check Your Six, a clothing company he started four years ago at his parents’ house. McManus’ company has grown to have sales in 50 states and 14 countries, distributed online by the industry’s largest retailer. T-Shirt Magazine hailed the brand as the No. 1 T-shirt in 2011, and it’s been featured in other magazines and publications.

New Release Provides Thrills as Galaxy’s Guardian Recruits Help to Fight Against Evil Endangering the Solar System; Book by Valerie Welsh

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Creator’s Children: The Rise of Astwihad” by Valerie Welsh.

This new book published by Dog Ear Publishing is an epic saga sweeping across solar systems; immortal guardian Galaxie has been charged with the task of protecting the innocent beings in danger of being eradicated by a new and terrible evil.  Will Galaxie be able to persuade the people of earth that, without their help, they could be next?

When Galaxie, the immortal guardian of the Milky Way, learned that she was chosen to take corporeal form and bear the next immortal guardian, she was thrilled.  Galaxie longed to perform this task, and she looked forward to leaving her dimension and meeting new beings.  However, Galaxie’s pleasure was short-lived; her long-time partner, Solana, the Lathevain who oversaw the Milky Way with her, had been injured. Prior to this, no Lathevain had ever been hurt.  What could have caused this anomaly? Galaxie and Solana got their answer quickly:  a peaceful race, the Tridents, had been virtually eliminated by a rogue scientist and his evil creation.  This creation, Astwihad, had also decimated life in the planets nearby.

Horrified by the carnage, Galaxie took her corporeal form and presented the startling new information to the Sesheta Council, hoping they could guide her.  The Council saw the eminent danger to the entire galaxy, and entrusted Galaxie with a very important mission:  to seek out a race of beings known as the Trichinas and inspire them to assist her in stopping Astwihad before he destroyed the entire universe.  The Trichinas had been residing on earth for centuries, knowing that they were different from humans but otherwise unaware of their heritage. Can Galaxie make this group of beings understand the danger that threatens their home? Will she be able to galvanize them into action against Astwihad and his army of clones?  And, ultimately, will she be able to complete her original mission of finding a mate to create the next guardian of the galaxy?

Creator’s Children: The Rise of Astwihad is a fast-paced adventure full of amazing and original characters and locales; Galaxie is an empowering and fascinating character, rich and multi-dimensional, and author Valerie Welsh definitely leaves the reader longing for more.  Jam-packed with action and adventure, humor and horror, love and war, Creator’s Children: The Rise of Astwihad has something for every reader.

Author William B. Moran hits homerun with his newest novel- One Season, A Baseball Tale

Dog Ear Publishing releases “One Season: A Baseball Tale” by William Moran.

Only in the world of major league baseball could a 45 year old man like John Meek find himself with the extraordinary opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream of pitching in the majors. A serious car wreck left him with a freakishly deformed right arm∑an arm that gave him the unexpected ability to throw pitches no one could hit.

We are pleased to announce that novelist William B. Moran and Dog Ear Publishing have joined in an agreement to publish his latest book. This captivating major league baseball story is destined to take its place alongside the game’s most memorable novels.

Moran pitches his story with a wind up and follow through you’ll never forget. His characters draw you into their lives from page one…and you’ll pull them right into yours as they become brilliantly alive and too real to forget. With his primary character, pitcher John Meek, the author has achieved a rare balance between a life everyone can relate to and a life most only dare to dream about.        As these two extremes collide they create a baseball tale that resonates like the unmistakable crack of a bat connecting for a homerun. One Season, A Baseball Tale is a literary gift to baseball fans everywhere.

“Only in the world of major league baseball could an ordinary man like John Meek find himself with the extraordinary opportunity to fulfill his childhood dreams. At 45 years old, a serious car wreck left him with a freakishly deformed right arm…and an unexpected ability to throw pitches that no one had seen before. Unable to resist a spring amateur-day tryout, Meek appeared on the mound in Florida and put away seasoned pros one after the other. From that point on Meek’s middle-class existence evaporated into the rarified atmosphere of major league ball. What followed was a season worthy of baseball’s legend-rich history…a season of tension, challenges and changes for Meek, his family, teammates, and fans. It’s a season that climaxes just the way you hope it will…or does it? No true baseball fan will want to miss this One Season.”

Novelist William B. Moran is a federal judge, marathon runner, devoted baseball fan and avid traveler. As a federal administrative law judge he has presided in cases noted in The New York Times and The Washington Post involving the EPA, the IRS, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, the Mine Safety & Health Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and many others.

Dog Ear Publishing was founded in October, 2004 by Miles Nelson, Ray Robinson and Alan Harris to offer independent authors superior, customized publishing services. Headquartered in Indianapolis, their publishing and distribution services extend worldwide.

New Book by Edward Minyard Details One Man’s Adventures as Disaster Responder

Dog Ear Publishing releases “After Disaster: An Insider’s Perspective from the Heart of Chaos” by Edward Minyard.

Responding to natural and manmade disasters is a way of life for the author of this new release from Dog Ear Publishing. This riveting book describes the author’s experiences and shares his thoughts on the importance of being prepared for the unthinkable.

Preparedness is NOT Paranoia! This is the motto of Ed Minyard, who has been on the scene shortly after almost every major crisis in and around North America for the past decade. This new book tells the story of Ed and his team, who have regularly responded to disasters including terrorist attacks, hurricanes, tornadoes, oil spills, floods and earthquakes. As the leader of ResponseForce1 Corp, a disaster recovery consultancy, he’s been on the front lines, helping governments, business and citizens to put their lives and operations back together.

During the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, a colleague had the presence of mind to get equipment from Ed’s employer delivered to Bank of New York, which stood in the shadow of the World Trade Center. As the author writes, the bank later commended the company for that action, crediting it with saving the bank’s charter. Thus began Ed’s first experience with a real disaster recovery effort, and he was hooked.

Over the past 40 years, author Edward Minyard has served in leadership roles in some of the largest companies in the world, including American Express, Deloitte, Unisys and Accenture.  In these consultative roles, he provided services to airlines, insurance companies, power utilities and financial services companies, delivering telecommunications design, satellite communications disaster recovery planning.

“After Disaster” follows Ed’s adventures, describing such accomplishments as helping establish communications for first responders and officials in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the devastating earthquakes in Haiti. Ed shares lessons-learned in these disasters, pointing out the potential dangers of being unprepared, from a perspective few have seen – from the inside.

Minyard wrote the book to inspire others to become involved and to realize the importance of disaster preparedness.

Young Pup Shares His Adventures in New Release by Richard J. Kneiser

Dog Ear Publishing releases “Corky’s Diary… A Puppy’s Tale” by Richard J. Kneiser.

Take a peek inside the mind of a spirited Sheltie puppy during his early days with new owners. This new release from Dog Ear Publishing explores what a dog might think about all the experiences in his new life.

Take a journey with man’s best friend in this new book told from the perspective of the author’s Sheltie.  “Corky”, with help from his owner, “writes” about the first 10 months at his new home at the lake and in the woods, sharing both scary and exciting experiences of his early days “in his own words”.  The friendly pup settles in quickly, enjoying walks with Nana and Boppa and exploring his surroundings, while learning the rules for being a good dog.

“Corky’s Diary…” follows this energetic puppy’s story, based on anecdotes author Dick Kneiser jotted down almost daily when Corky first came to live with him and his wife. Corky notes how easy his owners were to train! For instance, right when it gets light in his room, they come to let him out and give him water, and they’re always petting him. “I think that I really like Nana and Boppa, and that they’re so nice to me. For new people, they’re just fine,” he notes.

Along with fun activities, the young pup also experiences some scarier moments, such as an early-morning encounter with raccoons, visiting the vet and coming face to face with a coyote. Animal lovers will smile at Corky’s light-hearted stories about typical puppy behavior: scaring a cat with his loudest bark, tolerating his first bath, romping in the snow for the first time, chasing geese and ducks, and many more antics as he makes new people-friends too.  He also cavorts with his brother, Jake, who just visits along with his owners.

Author Dick Kneiser and his wife live on wooded lake property in Oconomowoc Lake, Wis. They found Corky, who is now 4 years old, in western Wisconsin, after researching different breeders. The retired CPA plans to write a sequel to the diary to update Corky’s “big dog” adventures.

New Fiction Release Shares Story of Young Man’s Encounters with Prejudice and his Fight to Overcome his Conservative Upbringing; Book by Marc A. Caruso

Dog Ear Publishing releases “No Grey Area” by Marc A. Caruso.

This new book published by Dog Ear Publishing is the story of Cam Lantuzzi, a young man searching for something beyond the provincial offerings of his small Texas hometown.   His exploration brings him into contact with Randess Houghton, a young African American girl from a sophisticated background.  Can the couple withstand the heat from their friends and family as well as the disapproval of strangers whose actions could potentially result in physical harm?

Cam Lantuzzi is ready to graduate, and the powers that be at Reedko Parson High School in Kinsey, Texas, are eager to see the back of him.  Four years of troublemaking have left Cam with a bad reputation and an appetite for a fresh start in a more liberal environment. Houston Central College is a perfect place for Cam to spread his wings away from home.  Cam is ready to experiment, and when he meets the beautiful Randess Houghton, an African American girl, he’s intrigued by the idea of interracial dating.  Randess is initially amused by Cam’s confidence, but she finds herself falling for his charm and the excitement of dating someone different than her usual boyfriends.

The two start to date, and much to their chagrin, their relationship raises eyebrows among friends, family, and strangers. While Cam’s own immaturity causes problems with the fledgling relationship, the ire that the pair raises when they appear together in public becomes a more serious issue; a group of racists takes it upon themselves to teach Cam a lesson.  Will the two be able to overcome the obstacles along the path of true love?  Will Cam be able to avoid physical confrontation with the people who believe that it’s wrong for a man and a woman of different races to date?

No Grey Area is an interesting glimpse into a young man’s struggles against his conventional upbringing, and the shocking spectre of racism that haunts his relationship with an African-American woman. Cam Lantuzzi is a charming character who shows true growth as he makes his way through his late adolescence.  Author Marc A. Caruso, a Texas native, has written all of his life, earning acclaim for his “descriptive narratives.”  This is his first novel.
