New Release Provides Compelling Discussion on God’s Relevance to Modern Society – Book by Edward Correia

Believers face three obstacles in modern society: None of the world’s major religions appeal to many in the Western world, science has made believing in God more difficult, and history doesn’t show a trend toward justice and compassion as war and suffering still exist, according to the author. “The capacity of science to explain the world around us makes it harder and harder to accept the traditional conception of God that is described in Genesis,” Correia writes. “In particular, it makes it difficult to accept the idea that we live in a universe that is controlled by a divine hand.”

The author himself, who was raised in a conservative Protestant church, has experienced conflict of disappointment in organized religion paired with an inability to think of the universe without God. In The Uncertain Believer, Correia explores the ways people think about God – or reject Him. Chapters cover such topics as the God of the Bible, the God of love, whether God created the universe and whether God exists at all. He provides food for thought on whether there is a conception of God that makes sense for modern times. Correia’s answer is a resounding yes. If readers can reconsider their childhood assumptions and come to terms with the idea of a loving God, that can help guide them to lives filled with strength, wisdom and peace.

Author Edward Correia served as special counsel to President Bill Clinton for civil rights, acting as a senior legal adviser on civil rights laws and constitutional issues. Clinton appointed Correia to the National Council on Disability. He was a professor of law at Northeastern University. The author is an adjunct professor at American University’s Washington College of Law and serves on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

New Release Inspires Others to Make Journey of Introspection, Spirituality – Book by Jeri L. Glatter

In Lessons from the Trumpet Vine, author Jeri Glatter draws upon her personal experiences to create the uniquely nurturing voices of a spiritual presence she refers to as the elders. Delivering messages of hope and answering questions that arise during life’s interpersonal explorations, the collective voice of the elders emerges as a charming, unassuming font of safety and love. And through the poignancy of their lessons, the elders reach out to all readers drawn to inspirational prose, but notably to those in search of insight.

“These lessons are meant to ebb and flow throughout your lifetime, to be called upon when needed. Let them become your first breath when you awaken and what you exhale as you close your eyes to rest. A well-lived life is one that requires self-observation on a daily basis. Using self-honesty and a willingness to continually grow, these lessons are a means to do that, as they are to be revisited again and again.”

The illustrations included in the volume are photographs of original oil-on-canvas paintings created by the author. Combining the universal truths inside the elders’ messages with the energy, vibrancy, and intrinsic melodies of the twelve paintings, Lessons from the Trumpet Vine offers a rare reading and visual experience to everyone looking for something different—for themselves or as a gift—but especially for those who seek insight through a unique approach.

About the Author

A self-taught painter who honed her writing craft from an early age, author Jeri Glatter has shared with the reader the outcome of her personal journey of self discovery and healing. Through unique symbolism, she addresses the many questions and challenges of introspection required for becoming a whole person, from whatever challenges have been presented to their varied lives.

New Release Offers Physic Professor’s Own Prophecy on World Ending in 2012 – Book by Christopher Keating

People all over the world will be waiting to see what happens Dec. 21, 2012 – the date that the world as we know it is predicted to end. The author examines Mayan calendar end dates, galactic alignments, Pleiades photon belts, polar axis shifts super volcanoes and Nostradamus’ end-of-the-world claims and details his beliefs that all are “creative fiction spun from some kernels of scientific facts.” The book delves into the background of the different theories, showing why no one should be afraid of that date.

Dialogues on 2012, set in 2012, is written against the backdrop of three lifelong friends exchanging e-mails about different aspects of the 2012 predictions. The friends run the gamut: Fred is a believer, Tom is a disbeliever and Aileen wavers between the two perspectives. As they exchange their ideas, the friends each bring something of value to the discussion. Detailed endnotes enhance the author’s credibility on the subject. This critical – and at times light-hearted – scientifically accurate book shines a needed spotlight on end-of-the-world claims that have gained attention as the date draws closer.

This is the first book for popular reading by author Christopher Keating, a professor of physics with 20 years of experience conducting research in space physics, has taught undergraduate physics, space science and astronomy. This no-nonsense individual served for more than 30 years in the Navy and Navy Reserve working mainly as a naval intelligence analyst. He also spent time with the physics department at the U.S. Naval Academy.

New Fiction Release Presents Fascinating Post-Apocalyptic Scenario – Book by Alan Pinger

The year is 2014, and a series of very powerful earthquakes has hit California.  Unsure about the safety of their family, Scott and Megan Parsons decide to uproot their children and move to the relative safety of their elderly aunt’s house in Texas.  While en route, their home state is hit by an 11.5 earthquake, essentially decimating the state and starting a chain reaction of natural disasters across the globe.  As world leaders attempt to deal with the crisis, Iran uses their distraction to instigate a nuclear conflict, thus triggering Armageddon.

The Parsons and the few people they’ve encountered along the way are attempting to keep themselves and their family safe, stockpiling supplies and sealing their home to prevent infection with the killer virus that is sweeping the earth.  Will their precautions keep them alive, and if so, what will they find when they emerge from their self-imposed quarantine?  Will there be any survivors, and does God have special plans for them?  Will the world they knew be completely rebuilt, and what happens when their habits and personalities from their former lives comes up against the new way of doing things?

The Armageddon Domino is an action-packed tale of one family’s actions in the face of Armageddon.  Readers will find themselves cheering on the Parsons family as they do their best to keep their family safe and intact.  Author Alan Pinger has effectively combined true Biblical research with his own fertile imagination to create a fascinating theory about what will happen to those fortunate people who survive Armageddon.  Pinger has put a great deal of thought and time into the world that God will might provide for his chosen people, and the result makes for an interesting read.

New Release Gives PhD Students and Junior Faculty Members Tools for Success – Book by Viswanath Venkatesh

Dr. Viswanath Venkatesh, a well-respected figure in the world of academia, has worked one-on-one with a number of PhD students and junior faculty members, mentoring them as they pursue publication of their research. His experience with these junior academics brought to light the dearth of readily available information that could shepherd them through the challenging process of not only publishing their research but also establishing their teaching career. This book endeavors to aid those who wish to build a successful academic career. With help from his guest contributors, Dr. Venkatesh provides junior academics, PhD students and junior faculty members alike, with the tools that are required to create a fruitful career in academia.

This book is divided into five sections: research, managing the PhD program, life after the PhD, teaching and service, and broader advice. Each section addresses the trials that junior academics might encounter, and each chapter provides advice, given by seasoned scholars who are respected and successful in their careers, on dealing with the many situations that might arise. The traditional PhD program prepares students to conduct research, but very few teach students how to create a successful research program or build a portfolio for teaching. Dr. Venkatesh offers researchers and students the tools to achieve success by filling gaps in traditional academic programs.

Road to Success is a tremendous resource for junior academics seeking to establish themselves within their community. Dr. Venkatesh has been widely published in the fields of psychology, organizational behavior, marketing, operations management, information systems, and human-computer interaction. His work has been cited thousands of times and features papers that are on the most-cited lists of multiple journals. Dr. Venkatesh has also mentored many junior faculty members and PhD students, and he hopes to help even more students through the advice provided in this book.

New Release Details Cancer Survivor’s Approach to Thriving in Spite of Lifelong Disease – Book by Lorie L. Vincent & Mark L. Vincent

When Lorie Vincent’s surgeon told her she didn’t have cancer anymore, her relief was tempered by surprise; Lorie didn’t know she had cancer in the first place.  The doctor shrugged off the Vincents’ requests for a second opinion, but Lorie’s mother insisted that Lorie talk to a pathologist who worked with her.  This doctor informed Lorie and her husband Mark that the cancer found in Lorie’s uterine lining was, in fact, a particularly lethal form of cancer called leiomyosarcoma, and he sent Lorie to an oncologist.  There, the Vincents learned more about Lorie’s particular form of cancer, specifically that it is incredibly rare and that it would reoccur in Lori’s lungs; eighteen months later, a scan found a tumor in Lorie’s right lung.

This tumor was the start of an incredible journey for Lorie and her family.  Over the next twelve years, Lorie experienced sixteen different occurrences of cancer, and with help from her physicians and her own deep faith, she managed to fight each one off.  Lorie and her husband were repeatedly advised that the end was near, and they should simply enjoy the time that Lorie had left, but they managed to defeat the odds over and over again.   Lorie is considered to be the longest-living person with a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma, and she intends to continue beating the odds.

Fighting Disease, Not Death  is more than a story about one woman’s amazing battle against a horrifying diagnosis; it is a discussion of Lorie and Mark’s faith, and the way that it “sustains them and gives them a reason to remain in service to others.”   The Vincents and their extraordinary attitude toward this disease are extremely inspirational; their faith in their God and in one another is remarkable, and they share their unique approach to “living and thriving during lifelong suffering” with all who read this fascinating book.

New Release Mixes Magic, Science Fiction to Create Incredible Tale – Book by William D. McWilson

Science fiction meets mythology in this novel based on the premise that heterosexuality is an “extraterrestrial experiment gone wrong,” with heterosexuals being used for social experiments and to colonize the harsh planet, Terra. Ancient gods such as the Olympians were actually gay people from another multi-verse, the author writes, with heterosexuality not the norm anywhere in the known verses. Moreover, magic remains among us from the time of these powerful beings, initiated by spell commands that activate subatomic computers still being created on Terra by specific plants and crystals.

In the Beginning opens with Terra and her classmates on the research station Orion, located on the edge of space controlled by the Gay and Lesbian Continuum (GLC), and ostensibly created to encourage peace and trade throughout the known Verse. Orion’s real purpose is to study an ancient space artifact thought lost to time, called the Geodite. When the Geodite revives after centuries of dormancy, Terra and her family must survive what comes from the other side. Millennia ago the Geodite had ceased functioning stopping travel to the Terran verse and stranding GLC citizens like Adonis, Athena and Merlin on Terra, leaving them to fend for themselves against the primitive barbarian Hetero race. The novel provides an unforgettable tale about sexuality and humanity, told through flashbacks and present-day narrative.

Author William D. McWilson traveled extensively as a U.S. Army dependent and while serving in the Navy. He survived as AIDS decimated friends. McWilson earned a degree from California State University, Chico, and California Western School of Law. The lawyer lives in southern California with his husband, Mike; the couple was one of the original 18,000 who were allowed to marry, until the law was changed.
