New Release Sheds Light on Secret Soldiers of Korean War- book by Hwang Ha-yong

Tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers died in Korea to stop the spread of Communism and the aggression of North Korea. But those were not the only victims of the war. Now that more than 50 years have passed since the start of that war – June 25, 1950 – it’s safe to disclose the secrets of the intelligence war against the Communists of North Korea as told through the eyes of one man. When the war began, refugees from North Korea left their families to help the South Korean army and the United Nations expel Communism from the Korean peninsula. These hidden heroes infiltrated enemy lines, but many disappeared into unknown fields, mountains and rivers.

My Father’s War by Dog Ear Publishing author Hwang Ha-yong reveals, at last, the true story of these unnamed, forgotten members of the Korean guerrilla force. Chapters in the book include such intriguing titles as Liberation and the Korean War, The Germ War Scare, Life in Wartime and Goodbye My Comrades Forever. The book’s unforgettable words are backed up with black and white maps and photos of war, the author’s family and colleague, as well as an extensive bibliography and Web sites for those who want to explore the topic further.

The author, who became a writer and music composer after the war, died two days after finishing the third draft of his book. His son, Hwang Sung, who served as his editor, conducted extensive research, visiting the places his father had been and interviewing his father’s former comrades to make sure his father’s accounts told the true story of this moment in history.

Cross Borders and Experience Adventures in Traveling Firsthand with this book of Short Stories- book by Bill Stamos

In this new release of Dog Ear Publishing published short stories, author Bill Stamos takes us on a journey across countries and cultures that begins in 1969 and continues through to the new millennium. Whether travelling through the Middle East as a young man in the 1970’s, mutinying on a sailboat adrift in the Gulf of Alaska, traveling through Mexico to see a solar eclipse with a pal, or falling in love with a lingerie model in an airport in Ecuador, Stamos captures both the humor and the humanity of a sojourner far from home. Stamos has organized these 17 mostly autobiographical adventures into the categories of “Cultural Crossings,” “Spiritual Crossings,” “Political Crossings,” “Extended Crossings” and finally, “Crossings of the Absurd.”  These stories, most of which take place against an international backdrop, are all about what imbues any transition or border crossing, whether physical, or metaphorical. Choosing the promise of repeated escape, these are the stories of an improbable ‘Everyman’ lurching up against the imprints of past mistakes, and the unwary limitations of enforced boundaries

Bill Stamos has a spent a lifetime traveling the globe and now lives mostly in California where he is a community college counselor. Border Crossings’ Tales of Transit and Transgression within the Global Village is his first book.

New Release Brings Undiscovered Details of Kennedy’s Assassination to Light- book by Orlando Martin

A former military officer disputes the findings of the Warren Commission, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald took three shots at the president from the southeast window of the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository using a World War II-vintage 6.5 mm Italian bolt-action rifle. Among the author’s claims: evidence shows there were three shooters in Dallas; five shots were taken at the president, with the second and third gunmen taking two shots each; different caliber rifles were used for the first, third and fifth shot; and Oswald did not shoot the president. He also sheds light on inconsistencies he discovered in Abraham Zapruder’s film of the event, analyzing it frame by frame.

In his forward to JFK. Analysis of a Shooting, the author writes, “The worst any society can feasibly do, from a moral perspective, is to condemn the innocent or allow the guilty to go free. In President Kennedy’s assassination the ballistics evidence tends to indicate that both scenarios actually happened.” Martin, who was 6 years old when Kennedy was shot, spent three years researching this Dog Ear Publishing published book, drawing on his many years of military weaponry experience. He includes chapters on JFK’s history, the Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis, the Zapruder film and a chapter on each of the five bullets his analysis concludes were fired at the president. Anyone who has questioned the government’s version of Kennedy’s assassination should read this detailed, compelling work.

The author joined the Navy in 1976, retiring from continuous service from active duty in 1996. During his service, he qualified as a rifle expert, earning the expert medal. As a member of the Security Alert Force Unit onboard the USS Ramsey, Martin was trained in assault tactics and served as one of the fire team leaders. He is a devoted firearms enthusiast and collector.

Answer to a Prayer Brings Titanic’s Final Moments to Life- book by Scott Munson

Kathleen Dolan O’Hara has no idea what her heartfelt prayer will bring. The 97 year old, one of the last living survivors of the ill-fated Titanic, is dying and seeks confirmation that her father, Patrick, heroically fought their way from the lower decks to get her safely into a lifeboat

Her prayer is heard by radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi and electrical genius Nikola Tesla who are monitoring Heaven’s airwaves. They pass it on to their superiors and Saint Elmo, the patron saint of sailors, agrees to a heavenly intervention. Two angels are sent to Kathleen allowing her to witness the events as they unfolded that terrible night.

A Gift From Saint Elmo, the first novel by Dog Ear Publishing author Scott Munson tells the story not only of a determined young father saving his infant daughter’s life but also of two apprentice angels hoping to fulfill their mission. There’s only one catch: Any attempt by the angels to alter history will instantly end the miraculous gift Kathleen has received in her final hours.

From the moment Patrick feels the Titanic shudder, to the book’s poignant conclusion, readers will be swept along by the story. The author uses twists and turns to keep up the suspense, cleverly interweaving the emotions of the observers and the events on the Titanic. Ironically, Patrick’s last moments on the doomed ship are of joy and not fear. It’s a story so tender and moving it touches the angels in Heaven.

Magic Potion Leads to Massive Mudpie in New Children’s Book- book by Teri Bergens

Explore the world of dirt and trucks in this whimsical tale of mud and magic gone awry. When Mitchell’s alarm goes off, he knows there’s some mud where it doesn’t belong, and he’s just the boy to clean it up. He grabs his mud-working shoes, workbelt and trucks and sets off. But this mud is rock-hard and won’t budge. Luckily, he’s got a blue magic potion to soften the mud. After a whiff of blue smoke, the potion starts to work – unfortunately, it works a little too well. Before long, it starts raining mud, filling the yard with a gloppy, gooey mess that’s bigger than ever.

Mud Trouble, by writer and illustrator Teri Bergens, keeps children entertained as Mitchell comes up with the solution to his problem. Even when he’s finished the job and enjoying a well-deserved bath, it’s not the last we’ve seen of his blue magic potion. This story, published by Dog Ear Publishing, will provide laughs until the last page.

Bergens’ cartoon-like images delight the eye, and her bold, vivid colors bring the amusing story to life. The rhyming text she uses is easy for adults to read to their children and grandchildren and will help young readers follow the story. The book will appeal to boys and girls who love to get dirty and the caregivers who make them clean again.

A Cat Leaves a Loving and Comfortable Home and Discovers that Life on the Streets is Far from Easy- book by Troas James Alexander

In this new children’s release, published by Dog Ear Publishing, we meet an orange cat named Stray who is adopted by a loving family. Life in a home is comfortable for Stray but he has one problem: he hates to follow rules! One day, Stray decides to leave his cozy home in search of adventure. He meets a friendly street cat who lives in a boxcar. The cat has no name so Stray calls him Seymour.

Even though he enjoys Seymour’s company, Stray soon realizes that his new life of “freedom” on the streets is no picnic! When the two cats bump into an angry and vicious cat named Patch, Stray decides to stay on and steal fish for Patch but Seymour doesn’t like stealing and goes on his way. Stray soon finds out that Patch belongs to a dangerous gang of cats but by the time Stray realizes he’s in over his head, it’s too late to escape! It’s up to Seymour and his newfound monkey friend Nonesuch to rescue Stray from Patch and his gang. Will Stray ever make it back to the safety of his home?

During her 43 years of experience as a teacher in the Chicago Public School system, author Troas James Alexander saw that children needed to be encouraged to make wise choices from a young age. In Stray’s Great Adventure, she sets out to do just that. By reading about Stray’s story, she hopes children will think about their own well being. Alexander includes a glossary of more complex words from the story at the end of the book. The illustrations by Leonard Mitchell Jr. are colorful and bring out the emotion of the various characters. Stray’s Great Adventure may be about cats and a monkey, but it tells a very human story!
